Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to create two peacekeeping centers in Turkmenistan

    January.15.2025

National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres, proposed creating two peacekeeping centers in the country, TDH reports.

The Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty emphasized that Turkmenistan, as a Caspian state, pays special attention to regional security issues.

"As for regional security, we must take into account that Turkmenistan is also a Caspian state. For this reason, we are concerned about the security situation in the Caspian region," the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also recalls that last year Turkmenistan put forward an initiative to host the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Caspian States. In this regard, based on the proposals of the Turkmen side to grant neutral states the status of priority partners in the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations, readiness for active interaction with the relevant UN structures was declared.

"For this purpose, we can consider the possibility of creating two peacekeeping centers on the territory of Turkmenistan. Of course, targeted measures will be implemented taking into account the neutral status of Turkmenistan, which directly provides for the practical application of the norms of neutrality to maintain international peace and security, including to prevent conflicts," said Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty also stated that the level of security and the situation with it in Central Asia are largely determined by the constructive solution of a wide range of issues on the modern regional agenda, one of which is the water issue.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov voiced Turkmenistan's position, according to which the consideration of a whole range of issues related to water should be based on compliance with international law, taking into account the interests of the states of the region and the involvement of international structures, primarily the UN. Their violation creates a threat and colossal environmental, socio-economic and humanitarian risk for the countries of the region, the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized.
