
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) confirmed its readiness to provide comprehensive support to Turkmenistan's initiatives within the framework of bilateral cooperation. This was stated by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu during a meeting with Turkmenistan's Permanent Representative to FAO, Toyli Komekov.
The meeting took place on February 18 at FAO headquarters in Rome, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.
Ambassador T. Komekov conveyed greetings to the Director-General on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, reiterating the high praise for FAO's activities and expressing the Turkmen side's readiness to cooperate in implementing best international practices in sustainable agricultural development and strengthening food security.
The parties discussed the results of the FAO head's visit to Ashgabat in January 2026, during which high-level meetings were held and an agreement was signed establishing a full-fledged FAO representative office in Turkmenistan.
In turn, Qu Dongyu highly appreciated the meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Noting Turkmenistan's significant potential and its ongoing development, the FAO Director-General emphasized the country's active role in international efforts to protect the environment, rationally manage natural resources, and ensure food security. FAO reaffirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive support to Turkmenistan's initiatives within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
An exchange of views also took place on the implementation of the Country Programming Framework for 2026-2030, which focuses on adaptation to climate change, water resources management, and innovation, the source notes.
