President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, who arrived in the country on a visit. This was reported by TDH.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of relations with Georgia, which are based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and trust. It was noted that interstate cooperation is developing both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international organizations, primarily the United Nations.
The key areas of cooperation include trade and economic partnership, energy, industry, and healthcare. The parties also focused on the transport and logistics sector. The leaders emphasized the importance of cultural and humanitarian dialogue in strengthening bilateral ties.
As part of Kvrivishvili's visit, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation was led by Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Nazar Agakhanov. The participants discussed the diversification of trade turnover, the state of export-import operations, and the expansion of the range of export-oriented goods, including petrochemical, textile, and agricultural products.
The transport and logistics sector was identified as a priority area for cooperation. The parties discussed the development of transport infrastructure for cargo transportation along the Caspian Sea-Black Sea route. The Georgian side expressed interest in increasing transit traffic through the Port of Poti, which, when integrated with the Port of Turkmenbashi, would create a logistics chain between the two seas and provide Turkmenistan with a shorter route to European markets.
In the energy sector, the parties discussed the prospects for implementing joint projects and developing the Lapis Lazuli corridor, as well as the possibility of exporting Turkmen energy resources to international markets through Georgia's transit potential.
