Starting January 1, 2026, the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States bodies has passed from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan, TASS reports.
As President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, Ashgabat plans to contribute to the realization of the organization's potential at the highest level. As noted, Turkmenistan perceives its chairmanship as a sign of respect and trust of all participating states, as well as recognition of the country's contribution to the development of the CIS.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also emphasized that Turkmenistan will develop a concept reflecting its views and approaches to further developing interstate cooperation, taking into account the country's most important needs for its chairmanship in the CIS.
It is worth noting that Turkmenistan is an associate member of the CIS. Ashgabat last chaired the organization in 2019.
