A meeting was held on Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the transport sector

A delegation by Amir Khan Mottaki, currently the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, is on a working visit to Ashgabat. Today, a meeting was held between the head of the Afghan delegation, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Mottaki and Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakyev. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.

During the meeting, an extensive discussion was held on increasing cargo traffic between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, creating more opportunities for Afghan businessmen to transport cargo through the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port.

Noting that the Turgundi railway station is of great importance in cargo traffic between the two countries, the Afghan side expressed its readiness to modernize the said railway station and increase its cargo carrying capacity at the expense of Turkmen investment in order to increase mutual trade and transit cargo traffic.

Also, Amir Khan Mottaki emphasized the need to expand cooperation with other participating countries to activate the "Lapis-Lazuli" international transport corridor.

Mammethan Chakyev emphasized that a lot of work is being done between the two countries in all areas, especially in the field of transport and logistics, and relations are constantly growing. In particular, he said that soon after the signing of the agreement between the railway organizations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, the Turkmen side will start construction works to increase the capacity of the Turgundi railway station.

The CEO of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan thanked the Afghan side for creating favorable conditions for the Turkmen side to invest in the Turgundi railway station.

In addition, M. Chakiyev noted that the international transport corridor "Lapis-Lazuli" is a very important issue, and in this regard, a meeting should be held between the five countries participating in the project. emphasized the need for discussion.

Also, within the framework of the meeting, it was noted that a business delegation led by the Minister of Trade and Industry of Afghanistan will soon visit Turkmenistan, and they will get acquainted with the possibilities of Turkmenbashi International Sea Port.
