President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov highly appreciated the potential of cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union, defining the economy, investment, energy, transport, and trade as priority areas of cooperation in this format. He stated this in his speech at the “Central Asia – European Union” summit, which took place in Samarkand.
"Turkmenistan is firmly committed to a serious energy dialogue with the EU at a new substantive level and is ready to implement practical steps," the head of Turkmenistan said, inviting European partners to a substantive discussion of partnership opportunities in the field of renewable energy. At the same time, readiness was noted to launch practical joint projects in the field of "green energy" and to consider prospects for cooperation in the use of wind and solar energy, hydrogen energy.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov called the creation of the “East-West” and “West-East” transport and communication lines a key component of strategic cooperation, expressing his readiness to provide the capacities of the Turkmenbashy seaport on the Caspian coast of Turkmenistan, as well as the road infrastructure on the territory of our country in the interests of this project. Along with this, the importance of building underwater infrastructure in the Caspian was noted.
The first Central Asia-EU summit was held in Samarkand on Friday. It was chaired by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and attended by the heads of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The European Union was represented by the President of the European Council António Costa and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
