Participants in the International Peace and Confidence-Building Forum supported Turkmenistan's initiative to designate 2028 as the "Year of International Law." This was stated in the Ashgabat Declaration adopted at the forum.
"We call on all member states of the United Nations to strengthen multilateral cooperation mechanisms as a foundation for global peace and support Turkmenistan's proposal to declare 2028 the "Year of International Law." We call on all member states to believe that this will be a reflection of joint efforts to strengthen the universality and rule of international law, as enshrined in the UN Charter," the document states.
In the declaration, the forum participants reaffirmed their commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
The forum participants also emphasized the importance of regularly holding international and regional forums dedicated to issues of neutrality, peace, and confidence-building.
The document notes that 2030 has been declared the International Year of Peace and Confidence for the second time.
